Valentine's Day Party at 3:00 - Please bring a valentine for each child. I will send home a class list shortly.  We have 22 students in our class.

Feb. 12 & Feb. 13 - Student Led Conferences
Thursday, Feb. 13 - Monday, Feb. 17 - NO SCHOOL- President's Weekend

Math- We are continuing our study on fractions. This topic is a little harder than the last topic on fractions so we will be doing more introduction in the classroom and review at night. Once we are finished with fractions, we will likely go back to the flipped class for math.   We will continue with topic 10 through the end of this week, will review on Monday and test on Tuesday.

Spelling/Vocabulary- Students have their test next Friday, February 7th.  Here is a link to practice the spelling with Spelling City.  https://www.spellingcity.com/view-spelling-list.html?listId=16438068

Social Studies/Reading/Writing- Students are finishing up their research and have begun writing their 4 paragraph essay for their country.  Our goal is to finish writing and have them typed by the end of this week.  Our Genius Hour will probably be put on hold until next week so we can be sure to have our International Festival projects finished on time.

Students will be taking a test this Friday over the location of the 7 continents and 5 oceans.  We completed a study guide yesterday from which to study this week.  The kids assured me that it would be "easy peasy, lemon squeezy" because they learned them waaaaaaaay back in first grade.  :)

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a fantastic week!

School of Economics Field Trip- We will continue to prepare for our field trip by completing activities within our "shop" groups. The field trip is on Thursday. We will need some extra time to get there in the morning in order to arrive on time. Therefore, it is very important that ALL students are at school on Thursday before the 8:50 bell rings. The buses will need to be pulling away from the school at about that time. So please have your child here on time (or a few minutes early) on Thursday.

Hot dogs will be provided as a lunch that day, along with a few other snacks that the students will get to purchase from the different "shops."  If your child does not eat hot dogs, please feel free to send them with a sack lunch. We are looking forward to a very fun and educational day.  Thanks to the 9 parents from our class that are helping to chaperone this trip!  :)

Math- We have started learning about fractions and will complete Topic 9 with a test on Friday.

Spelling/Vocabulary- Students will receive a new spelling/ vocabulary list this week. The final test will be on Jan. 24. The vocabulary words are related to geography and mapping. Social Studies- We are beginning to prepare for our International Festival. Students will be learning about geography through their research. They will also practice using various mapping skills, knowing the difference betweeen types of maps and globes, as well as learning the names of the continents and oceans.

Reading/ Writing- Students will begin to research the country of your family's ancestry. They will organize their research into topics and practice notetaking using books and the internet as resources.
